Surfing Madonna Oceans Project is pleased to present

“Ocean/Earth/Air” a juried regional show about our beautiful, fragile and fascinating world.

100 artists will be selected to showcase their work on the theme during the month of April 2023.

 

Awards - We will award 12 artists with cash prizes for their exceptional work.

All Mediums Accepted - The show will host all mediums of painting, sculptures, fabric, collage, assemblage and photography. 

Poetry Awards & Readings - We will have three  poetry awards, First, Second and Third Place

Award winning poets will be invited to do a poetry reading at a reception on Sunday April 23, 2023. 

 

Reception

The reception on April 23, 2023 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm will feature the Mission Hills high school band “The Preservationists” for two concerts.

Surfing Madonna Oceans Project wants to spread our message of hope and appreciation for the ocean and support the arts. We believe that creating art and public appreciation of art increases cognitive abilities and eases anxiety and depression in these difficult times. Art can make a difference in the community, and that collective action can greatly impact the world.

ELIGIBILITY

You may submit if you’re a California artist & your original work was made within the past 2 years.

ENTRY FEE

Submit up to 3 pieces for $30 Entry fees are non-refundable.

GENERAL PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS

We strive to protect your work. To prevent possible damage to it, artwork must be appropriately prepared for exhibition when delivered.

1) Two-dimensional work must be wired with sufficient gauge to support the weight of the work and be ready to hang. Special hanging, display and/or lighting requirements will be at the discretion of the gallery.

2) Accepted artwork may not be removed before the end of the exhibition.

Artwork that fails to comply with entry requirements will be disqualified.

Artists will work directly with buyers for sales, and no commissions will be taken.

LIABILITY

By submitting I acknowledge that I have read and understand the general presentation requirements of the exhibition and will abide by them. The greatest possible care will be taken in handling art works. The Poway Center for the Performing Arts and/or their agents will not be responsible for loss or damage to any artwork submitted.

PARKING Parking is available for art viewing.  Please stop by the Main Office prior to parking in order to receive a parking pass (weekdays only).

PICK UP/STORAGE OF ART WORK

There is NO STORAGE space. You artwork MUST be picked up on May 1 from 10 - 2. If you shipped your piece you must include a self addressed, pre-paid shipping label for its return.

Surfing Madonna Oceans Project, its Officers, Directors, agents, and representatives assume NO responsibility for damages, theft, or loss to entries submitted for the show. All Entries are subject to these conditions. Insurance is the responsibility of the artist. Submission of an entry automatically constitutes the entrant’s acceptance of all competition rules.

1) Two-dimensional work must be wired with sufficient gauge to support the weight of the work and be ready to hang. Your work must be professionaly framed (you can frame it yourself but it should be professional and appropriate for a museum display) or if not framed the edges should be neat and canvases should be on museum gallery wrapped canvas width  - 1 1/2” wide stretcher bars. If your work requires atypical hanging or presentation structure, please contact us prior to delivery dates for clearance. Special hanging, display and/or lighting requirements will be at the discretion of the Surfing Madonna Oceans Project staff.

2) Installation and multiple piece works must include a simple diagram showing installation positions. If your installation is different than what you describe it may disqualify your piece and cannot be accepted.

3) Work previously exhibited at Surfing Madonna Oceans Project shows will not be accepted.

4) Accepted artwork may not be removed before the end of the exhibition.

5) Artists will be contacted the staff when people are interested in purchasing their artwork. Artists will make their sales directly with customers. Artists agree to pay 15% of gross revenues for any sale of artwork to the City of Poway payable on load-out. Artists agree to collect and be responsible for all applicable sales tax on any artwork sold.

Example: Artwork is $200, 15% = $30. Tax in Poway is 7.75%, tax on $200 is $15.50. $30 is payable to city of Poway upon load out and $15.50 is due to the State. 

6) Sold artwork must remain in the show until load-out.

7) Artwork must be considered appropriate for viewing by all audiences, including children.

8) Artwork that fails to comply with entry requirements will be disqualified.

If you have entered a previous show on the ArtCall.org site, click on the "login" button, above, to log in to your account and you will be taken to the page that says "update user profile for this call" - check that your phone number is correct and then pay the $30 fee.  Boxes will then pop up saying "Payment successful, a payment receipt was emailed to you" and "Registration successful, a confirmation was emailed to you.  You may now submit your submissions."  You will then be able to click on the orange "+ add new submissions" button and upload your images.  Be sure to check your spam folder for the confirmation emails.  Before logging in, please scroll down to read full show prospectus, terms, and conditions.
