Nathalie Reyns

Nathalie Reyns, PhD is new to the art world, dabbling in glass mosaics inspired by her experiences as a marine scientist. As a professor at the University of San Diego in the Environmental and Ocean Sciences department, she teaches classes about oceanography and the marine environment, bringing students to sites around San Diego where they can learn about fascinating organisms and experience first-hand the beauty of our coast. Nathalie is passionate about her research on how the larval (baby) stages of marine invertebrates such as crabs and barnacles are transported by ocean currents to connect distant populations. Her mosaic series, titled "Porthole to the tidepools" showcases three common California native marine species that always bring excitement to her students when they discover them in the tidepools.
